The Super League has a long history in the professional rugby. There are twelve teams participating, playing 23 games each: 11 at home and 11 away plus a Magic Weekend game. After this set, the teams enter a Super 8 stage where the top eight play against each other one more time. The top four finishers enter the play-off series leading to the Grand Final. This year, Castleford Tigers will play against Leeds Rhinos. Nobody expected to see Castleford in the finale this year, but they managed to surprise us with an exciting head to head Semi-final.
Both Teams had their chances to win this match. Until the 69th minute, Castleford had a huge lead at 20-10 but St. Hellens caught up in just 10 minutes, taking the lead with 20-22 until the last minute. Castleford’s Player Luke Gale landed the decisive one-pointer in the golden goal extra time and pulled his team into the Grand Finale for the very first time, winning against Hellen with a final result the semi-finale with 23-22.
We also saw an exciting performance in the Semi-final from Leeds Rhinos VS Hull FC, which ended in a result of 18-16. This will be the 10th time Leeds qualified to the final, however it is question-worthy if they will be able to win it for the 8th time.
Leeds back-rower, Stevie Ward suffered a dislocated shoulder in the Semi-final on Friday, 29th of September and won’t be able to play in this year’s final. Coach McDermott for the Rhinos believes that this won’t affect the game too much. The odds offered by Matchbook speak for themselves:
