Since the return of football in June, no fans were allowed in stadiums to support their team. To protect players and club workers, every caution has been taken. Now, this week Italy and UK governments announced that they intend to open the doors of the stadium to football fans with the start of the 2020/21 season. For now, only these two countries revealed their intent, and football fans in other countries might be wondering when they can see their favorite team players live. Firstly, on Thursday Italian Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora explained how they were expecting the return of football fans to the stadiums next season. “For the reopening of stadiums, we believe we must adhere to the line of caution that has been followed so far. We are working hard with the Federation and the League so that in September, at the start of the new championship, there will be a way to reopen facilities and allow tens of thousands of fans to participate.” Spadafora said at the Italian Parliament.
Top tier league in Italy, Serie A was suspended since March 9 due to coronavirus and returned after three months, on June 20 behind closed doors. In the current situation, 5 rounds left to be played, and the league is planned to conclude on August 2.
A day later Prime Minister of the UK, Boris Johnson announced they were also planning a return of fans. “From October, we intend to bring back audiences in stadiums. Again, these changes must be done in a COVID-secure way subject to the successful outcome of pilots. From August 1, we will restart indoor performances to a live audience, subject to the success of pilots, and we will also pilot larger gatherings in venues like sports stadia, with a view to a wider reopening in the autumn.” he said.
English football was suspended on March 13. Same as Serie A, the elite league of UK, Premier League returned last month (June 17 to be exact). After the return, Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool was crowned with championship ahead of season’s end. Now only 2 rounds remaining and the Reds are the champions of 2019/20 season. They finally ended their thirty-year title drought, all thanks to Klopp.
