Five Set (Red Set)

Flare
A misleading inside-out play where the attacker initially fakes a central route, then cuts outward to strike.
Follow
A defensive strategy where a blocker “follows” the attacker along the net rather than covering a fixed position.
Freeballing
When a team sends the ball over in a simple pass rather than an aggressive hit, often after a broken play. In addition, it allows both teams to reset.

Front Slide

Drifting
A blocking mistake where the player moves sideways mid-jump instead of going straight up, creating gaps.
Extension / Extension Roll

Fish
Slang for a player tangled in the net. Usually due to poor positioning or overreaching.
Friendly Fire
When a teammate accidentally hits another with the ball, usually the result of mistimed spikes or wild serves.

Heat

Hit / Hitter
A hit is an offensive strike; the hitter (or spiker) is the player delivering it, often aiming for power or precision.
Hit Percentage
A stat that calculates a player’s efficiency: (Kills – Errors) ÷ Total Attempts. The higher, the better.
