The nominees for the Ballon d’ Or 2023
Tonight, France Football will release the final short list for those who stand the best chance of receiving the Golden Ball for 2023. The ceremony for the final winner will be held in Paris, as always, on October 30. For this year, the circumstances promised a great battle, mostly because of the Word Cup. However, a number of players have made it to the top 20 rather surprisingly. An even greater surprise, is the complete absence of names that dominated the sport in the past, as in the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo. It would be worth a bet on the top Asian and European bookmakers on who of the two main contenders will actually receive the reward.

Initial remarks to make:
- Seven players from Manchester City. Almost the entire squad. The rest must be rather envious for not receiving a nomination
- Ten players from the Premier League. Half the list.
- If Messi receives the Ballon, it will be the first time that a player of an American team will receive the honor. And it will be his eighth!
- No goalkeepers. A certain Emiliano Martinez should have been included in the list for being a major factor for this national team winning the World Cup. It was probably his behavior that cost him the distinction.
And the word is
According to none other than Wayne Rooney, the one that most deserves the title is Erling Haaland. In just one season in the Premier League, he broke almost every record that existed. Not to mention of course the massive 56 goals that he scored. However, the candidacy of Lionel Messi with a record of 42 goals scored, the contributions to the winning of the World Cup title by Argentina and the 26 assists, is quite a reason. Despite the fact that he is no longer playing in Europe.
