The fight for a spot in the Champions League continues and we have an excellent game for tomorrow. The reigning champions of the first tier league of Cyprus are going to host the champions of the Serbian Super Liga. The match is going to be played behind closed doors so playing on the road does not have a crucial impact on the visitors.
Omonia Nicosia finished 19/20 in the first place and were crowned champions. Being one of the two most successful Cyprian clubs, they will try their best to represent their country in the biggest stage of football. However, coming out of a very weak league, their job will not be easy. This year, they did not start the season as expected. They are still undefeated in 3 fixtures but they have only 1 victory which came against a newly-promoted team. In the earlier rounds of Champions League Qualifiers, they defeated Ararat Armenia and Legia Warszawa. The latter was a bit shocking to be honest because Legia can be considered stronger and more experienced compared to Omonia; however, it should be noted that these one-and-done elimination games are open to surprises.
Red Star, on the other hand, are arguably the most successful football club in Serbia. They are mostly known for the atmosphere created in their home games thanks to their passionate fan-base. It’s a pity that they cannot use this advantage due to the pandemic. However, they are still the favorites in my eyes for several reasons. First of all, the Serbian league is without a doubt a more competitive league. 20 teams are competing in this campaign this year compared to the 12-team league of Cyprus. Red Star won all of their first 7 fixtures in this more competitive league and have had an excellent start. They are for sure the favorites to win the domestic league this year to extend their title number to 32. Second of all, they have an obvious advantage regarding their experience at the European stage. I’d like to remind you that they are a 1-time winner of the European Champion Clubs’ Cup, the former official name of the UEFA Champions League. Thirdly, although I do not prefer to compare the teams based on their estimated value, I will refer to the numbers this time to show how big of a quality gap exists between these two teams. According to the transfer market, while Omonia’s estimated total market value is €10.56m, Red Star’s is €50,85m.
All in all, I believe that the quality gap between these two teams is apparent. The option to back the visitors offers good value and I’ll take my chances with the Serbian champions. And don’t forget to register for the best betting software to enjoy the best odds in the market. Good luck!
