4th placed Charlton Athletic will host 19th placed Stoke City in the second round of England Championship. While Charlton managed to get an away win against Blackburn last week, Stoke City lost against Queens Park Rangers unexpectedly at their home. Indeed, most of the results were pretty surprising at the first round of England Championship.
Stoke’s objective was crystal clear before the season started. They were and still are aiming to finish the league in top six and return to Premier League when all is said and done. However, the result they got last week left everyone with doubts. On the other hand, despite having been seen as the underdogs and one of the candidates for relegation, Charlton impressed every fan on the first round with the victory they got against Blackburn. They will be surely motivated ahead of the visit of Stoke City. I expect them to upset many teams this season; however, it will be a quite challenging task to maintain the same form in a league that lasts for 46 rounds.
As to Saturday’s match at the Valley, to my mind, a draw is the most likely option to go for. Stoke City had a terrible campaign last season. Their performance on the road was not pleasant at all. They drew 13 of 23 away matches last term. In fact, they drew in all the matches they played against the bottom seven. Furthermore, Stoke have failed to win 14 of their last 15 away matches. On the other hand, although Charlton Athletic will be looking for continuing the form they achieved through the late season, it shouldn’t be forgotten that they managed to win only 5 times out of 11 match-ups against the top half teams.
All in all, due to Stoke’s subpar performance in away matches and Charlton’s surprisingly good result last week, I don’t think Stoke will be able come out on top. However, losing twice at the beginning of the campaign would not be acceptable for a team that aims to qualify for play-offs. Therefore, I expect a draw and I have placed my bets on VIP-IBC, for enjoying this odd you can also register on the best betting platform, Good luck!
