At last we have reached to the Finals. This year’s Champions League have been crazy. No one can deny the fact that COVID-19 was the MVP because it surely changed the dynamics of the tournament. The hiatus helped some teams regenerate their condition and made some lose the momentum they had before. There is one thing that everyone can agree upon: it made Bayern even stronger than they were. Now they are only one game away from winning the title. However, this will not be as easy as it seems on the paper.
Let’s start with the underdog. I would not imagine myself calling PSG the underdog. It goes without saying that they are one of the strongest teams in the world. They have probably the best attacking line-up as well. However, this doesn’t mean they are playing the perfect football. I would like to remind you that not so long ago they were on the verge of getting eliminated from the Champions League in the quarter-finals. They only managed to defeat Atalanta with two goals scored in the stoppage time. Moreover, only 20 days ago, they played against Lyon in the French League Cup final. They did struggle a lot in this game as well and the game went to the penalty shoot-out. Although PSG were crowned the champions in the end, their performance was far from being impressive. All in all, they are still a great. They were defeated only once in this season’s Champions League. Guess by whom? None other than another German team, Borussia Dortmund.
As you must have understood already, I’m one of those riding the bandwagon of Bayern. As I already talked about how dominant they have been recently on my last pick, I will not mention again their historic victory against Barcelona. No, seriously. No need to humiliate Barça fans once again. What we can talk about though is their performance against Lyon in the semi-finals. Although they defeated their opponents with 3 goals to nil, they allowed too many scoring chances in this game. This is why everyone is talking about how PSG can punish them. I don’t know how many times Bayern have to prove themselves to you guys. Only in the last three UCL fixtures, this team scored 15 goals and conceded only 3. And the teams they faced are not 3rd tier teams from Europe. They rampaged Chelsea, Barcelona, and Lyon. One last note about how deep their squad is; if you take a look at the substitutions they made in the match against Lyon, you will see Niklas Süle, Kingsley Coman, Philippe Coutinho, Corentin Tolissio, and Benjamin Pavard came from the bench.
All in all, I believe what Bayern have is too much to handle for PSG. PSG did not play in high-quality matches in the time Bayern were on a run to win Bundesliga. Furthermore, the current form of Bayern shows how determined they are to win this tournament. My pick is Bayern to win.
