I will analyze another match from UEFA Nations League. This time we have a game between Serbia and Turkey counting for the 2nd round of the League B, Group 3. Both teams had a disappointing start but there are some points we should take a deeper look at. Let’s start!
Serbia visited Russia in the first round and left the pitch with 3-1 defeat. This defeat might have demotivated them but I still believe that Serbia are the strongest team in this group even though Turkey have the best young talents. Milenkovic and Maksimovic, two guys we know from Serie A, are the center-backs of this team. In the midfield, they have one of most talented midfielders in the world, Sergey Milinkovic-Savic. They have skilled wings, namely Tadic and Kostic. Last but not least, they have Mitrovic and Jovic on the offensive end to convert goal chances.
On the other side, we have Turkey who failed to defeat Hungary, whom we can consider as the weakest team of this group. I believe that we can forgive Serbia for the loss against Russia but there is not any excuse for Turks for their performance against Hungary. They played without some of their key players but still there should have been a quality gap between these two teams. Instead, Turkey gave us a game where they possessed the ball for most of the time but created absolutely zero goal chances. The offensive line of Emre Kılınç, Çalhanoğlu, Ahmed Kutucu, and Burak Yılmaz seemed to be a terrible idea as these players have never played with each other before. Since Cengiz Ünder is not on the squad, I don’t think anyone who will replace those players will make any difference in the game against Serbia as well. They will be solely looking for dead balls and the creativity of Hakan Çalhanoğlu.
All in all, I consider Serbia are the favorites but I will still go for a safer option with -0.25 Asian Handicap because I know that Turks always try to find a way to surprise the bettors.
