After the spring classics, it is also the time of the big tours. The first is Italy. The organizers have taken care of this year’s race to be quite difficult compared to past years, as they brought back the long stages and, above all, the brutal stages in the mountains. In addition, they added three stages with clock running, individual time trial (ITT). The competitor who will wear the pink shirt at the end of the race should be good in the mountains, have a good watch skills and can properly distribute its forces. The Whalebets team looked carefully at each of the remaining stages to the end and the athletes who have a chance to defeat this epic tour.
In the first week of the race, there were two key stages that were clock running. After that, they saw how one of the main favorites for winning the pink t-shirt has finished well and gained a lead over its competitors for the big win, namely: Roglic P. He has a lead of: +0.43 Rojas Gil J., +0.49 Amador A., +1:42 Bilbao P., +1:44 Nibali V., +1:55 Mollema B., +2:18 Jungels B., +4:46 Yates S. +4:11 Sivakov P., +4:29 Lopez M. A., +4:52 Landa M. Another important moment was the dropping of the second favorite of all specialists – Dumoulin T. – due to a very bad fall. As can be seen from the ranking, the considered one for third favorite, Yates S., lags with 3:46 minutes!
The second week starts calmly for the favorites as we have two flat stages (21.05 and 22.05). Then come the decisive stages!
12 Stage (23.05) – Cuneo > Pinerolo. Length – 158 km. 32km before the final is the Montoso height. It is 9.3 km long with an average slope of 9.3%.
13 Stage (24.05) – Pinerolo > Ceresole Reale. Length – 196km. Stage with 4700m displacement as the final is Pian del Lupo, where the length of the first climb is 9.4km. at 8.8% slope, followed immediately by 4.6km. at 9.4% slope.
14 Stage (25.05) – Saint Vincent >
Courmayeur. Length – 131km. Here we have 5 heights as one is of 3rd category,
two of 2nd and two of 1st category. A key here is Colle
San Carlo with a length of 10km at an average slope of 10%.
Last – Third week.
In the last week we have 3 mountain stages as the royal stage for the tour is 20th on 01.06 – Feltre > Passo Croce d’Aune. It has a length of 194km. Denial which will overcome the bikers is 5300m, having 3 heights of the 2nd category and 2 heights of the 1st category.
16th Stage – Lovere > Ponte di
Legno, with a length of 226km consisting of two heights (one of the 1st
category and one of the Vishcha) and a displacement of 5500m. The last 21 stage
will be a runtime (ITT) with a length of 17km.
Taking into account the momentary shape of the players so far, the dropping due to Dumoulin T., the weak form of Yates S. so far, knowing the power MOVISTAR racers (Rojas Gil J, Amador A), the top INEOS biking team with their second team, the experience with Messina – Vincenzo Nibali and his assistants for this Pozzovivo and Caruso tour, and his skills in climbs and downhills, Whalebets will bet on his victory in this Giro d’Italia 2019. The odds given by the bookmakers are quite attractive (4.50) due to the great favoritism of the Slovenian Primoz Roglic (1.50). This is due to the furor that he made last year in the Tour de France where he finished in 4th place. But let’s note that the profile of last year’s Tour has nothing to do with this year’s Giro. With such a heavy profile, a bad day in the mountains will be detrimental to him. This is only his 4th big lap and the 1st in which he is the big favorite! The tension, according to us, will come to one of these many mountainous stages in which the Shark of Messina will show its teeth!
