Why do people fail in sports betting?

Betting is an exciting way to make money. However, it can also be a risky endeavor. For a number of reasons, punters lose their bets and it is important to understand why before placing the next wager. In fact, it is even more imperative to do so, before looking into any betting accounts via agent, as it is regrettable but the problem goes far beyond than just losing a few euros. The cases that entire estates have been forfeited are well documented.

Let’s start small and learn why even one small bet is lost.

  1. Lack of knowledge

It makes no sense to place a bet to a sport, a match, a league or anywhere else if you do not know the basics of the terms. You cannot bet on how many points will a team score if you do not know what is a point and when does one count. Or could it be that we are talking about a tennis point which is scored by an individual and not a team.

Most gamblers tend to begin with what they know best. At least in the surface. But it is not enough. Successful betting first of all, means taking every circumstance into account.

  1. Confirmation bias

This one is actually human nature. Even if every aspect is researched, most people do not look into the information objectively before making a decision. The tendency is to disregard anything that does not agree with the bettor’s own views and opinions. In fact, discarding key pieces leads not only to the loss of the wager, but also to misrecognizing opportunities that would yield better results.

It would not be an understatement to say that bettors need to be more or less like judges. Objective, and looking at all arguments with equal weight.

  1. Emotions

More or less, this is human nature part II. And it is an undisputable fact that the vast majority places wagers on the team, the player, or wherever else they support. While it is not certain that bets will be lost, the tendency to not pay attention, not understanding, or not even recognizing weaknesses that can be exploited by an opponent, will eventually lead to losses.

  1. Unforseeable circumstances

Some will call it «bad luck» but it is a lot more than that. It is the one aspect that prevents any kind of strategy from being 100% successful. Bad weather is not bad luck. If a team is used to technic more than strength, they will need to compensate. If they can’t, then it’s a parameter that they had not taken into account and that’s an error. Last minute injuries, or changes in officials follow the same rule.

  1. Hastiness/carelessness

Let’s assume that you avoided all of the above, you made your choices. And then you did not pay attention to what you were looking at, when you ticked the boxes at the betting slip. It may seem silly but this actually happens to people that are used to doing things mechanically and by experience.

There are no certainties

Making the most out of the betting industry requires more than passion for the sports. It requires patience, perseverance and complete mindfulness. And it still does not mean that even if all of the above were observed, that every bet will be won. Punters can only do what they can do, to maximize the chances. There will always be some parameter to appear suddenly and change things around.

However, this is the appeal of the industry. The one possibility that will produce the greatest of profits. And this is why people open betting accounts via agent.
