Asian Handicap
The Asian Handicap is a type of spread betting used in soccer (football) matches that has gained a large following in Asia (hence the name). In fact, in parts of Asia, it is the standard form of betting.
Definition of the term
In essence, betting with the Asian Handicap eliminates the draw outcome, reducing the number of possible outcomes to just two. Asian Handicap betting tends to be favorable for bettors as it limits the number of calculations you have to do to determine your optimal bet.
In betting, a ‘Handicap’ means one team is given an imaginary lead over another before the match begins. If you place a bet on that particular team and they manage to win (taking into account the imaginary lead they were given) you win the bet.

Generally, there are five variations of Asian Handicap bets, though the exact format may depend on the bookmaker:
Standard (Full) Handicaps
A Handicap is a number added to the final result of the match. If the match outcome, including this Handicap, results in a draw, the wager is voided and the money is returned to the bettor.

Team A vs. Team B
Asian Handicap of 1:0
Half (1/2 or 0.5) Handicaps
Half (0.5) Handicaps eliminate draws by adding Handicaps in half point increments. This makes it so the bet can always be either won or lost and no money will be returned.

Asian Handicap of 0:0.5
Zero (0) Handicaps
Zero Handicaps eliminate the handicap system, meaning the winner is simply the winner of the match and in the event of a draw, betting amounts are returned to the bettors.

Three Quarter (3/4 or 0.75 or 0.5-1) Handicaps
This variation of the Asian Handicap divides your wager into two pots, each worth 50% of your wager. Whether you win or lose is determined in a way similar to that of the previous examples.
- Asian Handicap 0.75 = 50 % of wager Asian Handicap 0.5
- 50% of wager Asian Handicap 1
- Asian Handicap 1.75 = 50 % of wager Asian Handicap 1.5

Asian Handicap of 0:0.75
You bet 100 Euro on Team B Asian Handicap 0.75 with odds 1.9 so your wager is split into: 50 Euro Team B Asian Handicap 0.5 and 50 Euro Team B Asian Handicap 1.
Quarter (1/4 or 0.25 or 0-0.5) Handicaps
Quarter handicaps also split the wager into two pots, each worth 50% of your wager. Whether you win or lose is determined in a way similar to that of the previous example.
- Asian Handicap 0.25 = 50 % of wager Asian Handicap 0
- 50% of wager Asian Handicap 0.5
- Asian Handicap 1.75 = 50 % of wager Asian Handicap 1
- 50% of wager Asian Handicap 1.5
