When any doctor of any discipline completes their training and before they officially begin treating patients, they are required to swear what is known as the Hippocratic Oath. Here are the most important aspects that they promise to uphold:
- I will soothe the pain of anyone who needs my art
- I will offer those who suffer all my attention, my science and my love
- I will never harm my suffering friend
- I swear to care for anyone who suffers
In 1968, Doctors Max Recamier and Pascal Greletty-Bosviel took the decision of actually enforcing their oath outside the confines of their own country. It was the moment that led to the creation of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). The name was kept at the beginning, however, as time went by and they got more and more involved with international crises, the English equivalent “Doctors Without Borders” prevailed.
The initial premise was to provide medical services in emergencies. Under it, the 2 doctors, along with 2 nurses and 2 other civilians, took part in the first ever recorded mission of the organization. They went to the famine ravaged region of Biafra, answering to a call for volunteers from the Red Cross.
Undoubtedly, it is one of the worthiest causes, where humans help and support humans of all ages, ethnicities, genders and nationalities. It is also one of the endeavors that you should be looking to participate yourselves by any means you can, starting with your donation that will go a long way into providing relief for those that suffer.
While other organizations exist that provide similar services, in some areas of conflict, pain and suffering, they are not allowed to go for any number of reasons. In these same areas MSF can go because, apart from delivering relief, they are also strictly impartial, neutral, without any political, religious or economical affiliations and/or dependencies. Most of all, they always uphold the highest ethical standards of the profession. Not to mention of course that they do not ask for any sort of compensation for their services.
Perhaps what makes the difference for the organization’s acceptance is that they do not remain quiet. They speak out for everything that they bear witness to. It’s the pressure required to effect changes in a status quo that profits from disaster and destruction.
The volunteers are present wherever people get hurt after either a natural or a man-made disaster, a war, or any condition that places the local populations in distress. Understandably, the facilities in such areas are simply not the ideal ones. Which means that these doctors, put their life in danger, get targeted and perform miracles by saving as many lives as they can. If they were soldiers, they would have been receiving medals in recognition of their above and beyond heroism.
However, since they do not ask for compensation, they are solely dependent upon the humanitarianism of each and every one of us. 85% of their funding goes to whatever they need to support their programs. The remaining 15% covers their management and general expenses along with the necessary cost of fundraising. It takes a well-oiled machine to keep what they do organized in every detail.
However, what doctors without borders do, is not limited just to saving lives in the field. They also do valuable research on medical issues that still ravage underdeveloped countries, while getting actively involved into the current COVID-19 pandemic, vaccinating people in the 70 countries where they have established their presence, as well as the areas that have an augmented refugee problem.
All of the above require serious funds. The accountability for the money spent is complete and transparent. All donors can check where their donations go and, most of all, which lives they save.
What they do ask for is access to the valuable medical supplies that, for various reasons, is withheld from those who need them. What they ask for is for security to be provided at the places they work, so that they can do their work without the fear of being targeted. What they do deserves these basic consessions.
For whatever reason, lives are always getting lost undeservedly. A good percentage of these losses are due to the fact that medical personnel is not allowed to reach in time to provide the necessary aid. Doctors without borders have managed to overcome this obstacle and be there when they are needed. They need your help to continue doing so. So the question is whether you do want to save lives. Lives that one day may play an important part in solving the problems that makes humanity so belligerent.
- BET-IBC will make a donation for every Express Transfer that you accept.
- To make a donation, you need to access Doctors Without Borders and make the necessary arrangements. They will acknowledge your actions by sending you a certificate. Send it to us and we will match the amount donated.
- To go one step further, we have decided to combine our efforts with what we are the best at. So, for every goal that the 2 greatest players of the last 10 years, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, score, we will make a donation. That is for every time the ball finds the back of the net on all international competitions and their qualification stages, as well as all official matches of their teams in their respective leagues, or in the Champions and European Leagues, etc.
Donations from the BET-IBC/VIP-IBC customers who wanted to save lives : 15 USD You have our deepest gratitude!

How it all begun…

It’s not just medicine…
