The ladies fight as hard as their male counterparts and their bouts are just as interesting to watch and bet on. So, for UFC Fight Night of Mar 16, we will go to Las Vegas Nevada and take a look at the rest of the card underneath the main event (Tuivasa vs Tybura). At 22:00 GMT at the APEX, «Poppins» and «Jacque» will fight it out for the Strawweight Worldwide tour.
The duellists
Cory «Poppins» McKenna comes from Cwmbran, Wales, and is the slight underdog (offered at @1.955 at this time). She is 24 years old, weighs 116 lbs. (52 Kgs), stands at 1.60 m, and has a reach of 58.5’’. Probably, it’s the reason that she prefers to take all her fights to the ground. She has a record of 8 wins 2 losses to show for her performances up to now and all of them have been decided on the surface of the octagon. Cory is ranked at #25 of the board.
On the other hand, Jacqueline «Jacque» Amorim is an American who comes from Coconut Creek, Florida, USA. She is of the same height and weight as her opponent. However, she has a far longer reach at 68’’. Perhaps this is the reason that she prefers to fight standing and striking her opponents from a distance. In fact, the stats say that she will attempt 96.5% of her strikes at the head of the adversary. The success rate is an impressive 74.7%. The bookmakers allow a slight advantage for Jacqueline offering @1.829. Her record is 7 wins and 1 loss.
The critical point
No matter how the fight progresses, it’s more than likely (66% chance) that the winner will be declared via the judges’ decision. Both fighters do not have a history of knocking their opponents out or even forcing them to submission. In fact, Amorim has only one KO and 2 submissions, while McKenna counts only one submission.
What we can be sure of, is that the Welsh will try to avoid the strikes, close the distance, and take the fight to the ground where she is more likely to win. On the other hand, the American will run around trying to do the exact opposite and look for the opening that will allow her to land the decisive blow. An even more careful study of the numbers says that if McKenna can successfully protect the right side of her head, she will emerge victorious.
Update
Nothing has changed since we last talked about this one. However, we did dig deeper into the UFC fights that the two ladies fought and came to some conclusions. McKenna has a 3-1 record while Amorim is at 1-1. The interesting facts here are:
- 1) The Welsh lost to Elise Reed because her opponent kept her distance and was quicker.
- 2) Any fighter that chose to go with McKenna head on was defeated.
- 3) Amorim lost to Hughes on the third round because she was too impatient to go for a submission.
- 4) The Brazilian will have the advantage during the first two rounds. However, if she is not done with it by that time, McKenna will turn things around on the third. The question is if the Welsh will be quick enough to bring her opponent down within the time allotted for each round.
All things considered, this match will go all three rounds, therefore the offer for @2.575 for under 2.5, makes no sense. The general consensus is that Amorim will manage to stand her ground to the end. There will be no submission for either side, will a KO/TKO is highly unlikely. Therefore, the logical conclusion is to go for a win for Amorim via decision at @2.040. Hence, it’s time for you to open a Betspider account and make some money out of our suggestion.
