A new season of unknowns begins for the NFL on the weekend of Sep 07 and 08. At the MetLife Stadium the Minneapolis Vikings will play the first match of the season against the New York Giants on Sunday Sep 08 at 17:00 GMT. And we can only make assumptions based on the results of the preseason scrimmage games and the history between the two.
New York Giants vs Minnesota Vikings will be a close one
The hosts scored from 24 to 27 points in all three of the preparation matches against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Cleveland Browns and the Las Vegas Raiders. They won all three. Only the last ones managed to offer resistance by scoring 23. The other two scored only 3 and 12 respectively. On the other hand, the Giants scored a lot less (14 against the Detroit Lions, 10 against the Houston Texans and 6 against the New York Jets). In fact, they only managed to win only against the Lions.
Based on the above the assumption follows suite quite easily: «what are you talking about a close one? The Vikings will score 3-4 touchdowns, another couple of field goals, and maybe concede 1 TD and 1 FG!» In the time that’s left until our final recommendation we will make sure to dig deeper into what made the bookmakers give the offers they did.
So why are the odds so close?
While they are still preliminary, at this time we have an offer of @2.058 for the win of the visitors and @1.900 for the hosts emerging victorious. Remember that in the NFL there can be no draw in regulation. If they two sides are equal then there is overtime. A draw counts for .5 for each team only if no team manages to win at the end of the extra 30 minutes. @1.925 for over a total of 41.5 points, @1.943 goes for under that total. Given the average of 25.5 scored for the Vikings and 10 for the Giants, it will probably be well under that limit).
It makes even less sense when we see the history between the two. 28 – 10 Vikings, 27 – 24 Vikings, 31 – 24 Giants are the last results. The last victory for the visitors at the MetLife goes back to 13/10/22 with a score of 23 – 7.
Let’s wait for the update for New York Giants vs Minnesota Vikings
We have to assume that those that determined the above prices did not have all the pertinent information at hand. In all likelihood, next week when we get back with the update for this one, there will be some new considerations and, hence, some new numbers.
Update
Approaching the first round of the NFL, the only thing to report are the important injured players that will probably not make it to the starting line ups and therefore will affect the outcome of the match. For the Giants this is undoubtedly the quarterback Drew Lock and the wide receiver Gunner Olszewski. Both have had limited participation in the practice sessions and they are unlikely to play. On the other hand, the Vikings will probably miss two wide receivers: Jordan Addison and Jalen Nailor. Both with ankle injuries.
The newest prices for New York Giants vs Minnesota Vikings
The @2.058 for the New York Giants is now @2.140. Similarly, the @1.900 for the hosts is now @1.859. Scoring a total of 41 points or more gets @1.940 while the opposite pays out at @1.980. Both offers are quite interesting. However, it doesn’t look likely that the total average of 35.5 for both can justify a risk. It is just as easy to score one more touchdown and go over, as it is to stand defensively and hold out.
Even though we have some doubts on the outcome, we will agree with the proposal of the bookmakers and recommend the win for the Minnesota Vikings. It is the more probable scenario for this match. So, now is the time for you to open an account at the best betting platform and get some profits out of it.
