Our next tip for this week comes from the 8th round of the English Women’s Super League. Aston Villa WFC vs Crystal Palace Women is our fixture and will be played at Villa Park on Sunday 17th. Which of the two teams will win? That’s what we’ll be discussing next, so read on!
Aston Villa WFC – A Bad Start
This isn’t the start of the season Robert de Pauw would have expected! His side is yet to record a single win in the league; having recorded 2 draws and 4 losses. As of the 6th of November, they are currently 10th and level on point with the other 2 bottom teams. This home game against Crystal Palace Women is a must-win for them to avoid any further upsets. Rachel Daly, Kirsty Hanson, and Jordan Nobbs will need to up their game and secure the 3 points to help ease the pressure off Robert de Pauw.
So far, they scored 6 goals and conceded 11; keeping just one clean sheet.
Crystal Palace Women – A New Entrant
As a newcomer to the Women’s Super League, after securing a Tier 1 license in April 2024, not much is expected of the team as they are still testing the waters. As of November 6th, Laura Kaminski’s side is 9th and will face Everton this weekend before their derby against Aston Villa.
So far, they’ve won 1 match, drawn 1 and lost 4. Their most recent match was at home against, which they lost 0-3 to the League leaders Manchester City.
A great weakness for Crystal Palace this season has been the defense line! They conceded just too many goals (16 so far). Shae Yanez has been a key player for The Eagles, helping the team from the posts by making great saves, otherwise, they could easily be sitting at the rock bottom of the league.
The Eagles need to improve their attack line. They depend a lot on Alexia Potter, who is a midfielder for goals. Katie Stengel and Mille Gejl need to step up their game. With just 3 goals scored, Crystal Palace is one of the worst offensive sides in the Women’s Super League, which justifies their 9th position on the table.
Aston Villa WFC vs Crystal Palace Women – The Prediction
This weekend, Aston Villa WFC will be away to Manchester United (4th), while Crytal Palace will be at home to Everton (12th). We expect Crystal Palace to claim all three points during this week’s encounter and confidently prepare for their trip to Villa Park.
The early odds released by bookmakers are telling of a tide encounter, and to bring you guys the most accurate prediction possible we’ll need to wait a little for the next games to be played. Please look out for the upcoming update.
Update
Crystal Palace recorded a shocking draw on matchday 7 against a modest Everton side. It took barely a minute for Indiah-Paige Riley to open the score for the Eagles in what looked like it was going to be an easy win for the home side, but Honoka Hayashi has other plans! She netted at the 72nd minute to give a crucial point the Everton who wants to get out of the relegation spot.
On the other hand, Aston Villa on the road held on to a 0-0 tie with Manchester United, narrowly escaping a defeat that would have put them in a tough situation at home at the Villa Park this weekend.
Aston Villa and Crytal Palace are teams of equal strength at this point in time and picking a favorite isn’t an easy task. After their respective draws, they both dropped on the table to the 11th and 10th positions respectfully.
I foresee a tide game in the first half with little to now clear-cut chances from either side, hence I’m betting on a first-half draw at an odd of 2.679.
