Today, I will take you all on a trip to Africa to analyze an interesting South African Premiership fixture between Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy. The CAF Champions League spots (1st & 2nd) now seem out of reach for both sides, but one can still aim for a place in the next edition of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage. This will depend on the performance of teams such as Stellenbosch, currently occupying the 3rd spot. The match will take place on the 5th of April at the First National Bank Stadium at 2 PM GMT.
Kaizer Chiefs’ Recent Performance
Kaizer Chiefs, one of South African soccer’s most historically celebrated teams, have had a mixed season so far. Currently ranked 8th in the Premiership standings, the team has displayed flashes of brilliance but has struggled with consistency. Their recent performance has been a rollercoaster, with moments of dominance overshadowed by unforeseen lapses on the field.
Their main weakness this season has been their defense. They’ve conceded more goals (26) than they’ve scored (22) and are winless in their last two matches. They lost 0-2 against Richards Bay, and before this, they drew 0-0 at home against Cape Town City.
Before the duel against TS Galaxy, Kaizer Chiefs will play away to Golden Arrows on the 29th of March. That will be a good opportunity for them to build up confidence by winning. Mduduzi Shabalala and Wandile Duba have been the top goal scorers for Kaizer Chiefs this season, with four goals each. They’re closely followed by Ashley Du Preez, Ranga Chivaviro, and Tashreeq Morris, with three goals each.
TS Galaxy’s Recent Performance
Known for their rapid rise in South African soccer, TS Galaxy is currently ranked 4th in the Premiership standings. Their campaign has been marked by disciplined performances and a focus on teamwork. TS Galaxy has quickly earned a reputation as a determined and ambitious side, willing to go toe-to-toe with the league’s elite.
They’ve scored 28 goals so far and conceded 23. Furthermore, they’re unbeaten in their last four matches, having won three and drawn one. In their last fixture, they triumphed on the turf of AnaZulu 2-1, and before that, they won SuperSport United at home 3-1.
Dzenan Zajmovic has been the top contributor for TS Galaxy this season, scoring eight goals. He is currently the third-best top scorer in the league, following Lucas Ribeiro Costa (13) and Iqraam Rayners (9). Victor Letsoalo has also been a significant contributor, scoring four goals. Next, they face Marumo Gallants at home on March 30th before their away game against Kaizer Chiefs.
Comparing Both Teams
Looking at the H2H record, they’ve met each other 12 times. Eight of these matches ended in draws; Kaizer Chiefs won one, and TS Galaxy won three. The last two meetings between them ended in draws (1-1 on 16.12.2024 and 2-2 on 07.05.2024).
My Bet
Given the history of draws between both teams, I’m inclined towards the draw market now. Still, the bookie odds aren’t convincing, so I will wait a bit before making a final decision. You should expect my update in the coming days, containing my exact bet and further details.
Update
A disappointing outing for both the host Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy in the most recent South African Premiership games. Kaizer Chiefs lost 1-2 away to Golden Arrows, while TS Galaxy were surprisingly defeated at home 1-2 by Marumo Gallants.
In the Golden Arrows vs Kaizer Chiefs fixture, a 25th-minute goal from Sibiya gave the hosts the lead, but Kaizer Chiefs equalized just 4 minutes later. A 78th-minute goal from Knox Mutizwa sealed the victory for the Golden Arrows.
On the other hand, in the fixture TS Galaxy vs Marumo Gallants, it took just 2 minutes for Marumo Gallants to find the back of the net through Masindi Nemtajela. Daniel Msendami doubled the lead in the second half (56’). The host reduced the score through Victor Letsoala in the 67th minute of play but couldn’t overturn the scoreline. These bad results were exactly what both clubs didn’t need in the pursuit of their goals as the season is gradually drawing to an end.
Considering the poor form of both teams, combined with the historical head-to-head record, I’m going for a draw in this fixture @2.78. Another good market here is the half-time draw @1.94 on VIP-IBC.
