FC Metz and Lille are way different teams and this quality gap has increased in the last few years. Lille is clearly a top team now after they took out the league to Paris Saint Germain. Not only that, but in the last days, they also won the French Supercup against PSG as well.
On the contrary, Metz are just a decent team that plays enough to maintain themselves in the middle part of the table. They don’t have a big budget but the structure is good enough to compete against similar rivals. However, we can’t say the same against top teams and Lille is a good example. Metz have only won 2 times after 17 duels against Lille and we have to take into account that the current champions weren’t that strong in the past.
