The Glossary of e-sports Part I
The header image is quite indicative of the appeal that e-sports have, especially for the younger generation. It should not come as a surprise that gaming is now a profession. And there are professional teams competing in each world class tournament. With great prizes to be had. However, betting is not a subject of age and it is time to address the needs of the seasoned punters who need to understand the terminology involved, when they see the options at the top Asian and European bookmakers. Hence, this Glossary of e-sports comes to cover that need.
Since we are going to discuss about the different game titles that make up the sport, we will dedicate sections to each of them separately. There is no global terminology, at least not yet. So, let’s do it alphabetically:
E-sports Glossary for Counter Strike: Global offensive
The title is the 4th from the very popular Counter Strike series and it belongs to the Tactical First-Person Shooter (TFPS) genre on a multiplayer level. The Tactical part means that it requires planning, tactics and strategy. The two sides that fight it out are the Terrorists and the Counter-Terrorists, and there are nine modes in its official releases: Arms race, Casual, Competitive, Danger Zone, Deathmatch, Demolition, Flying Scoutsman, Retakes and Wingman. Forming a CS:GO team
There are 5 basic members of a professional Counter Strike: Global Offensive team. Each one has a specific role to fulfil. We have already discussed about the Captain or IGL. The other 4 roles are:
Support
They play alongside the entry fragger trading kills and covering other lines of sight. Essentially it is their job to allow the entry to focus entirely on achieving the main objective.
AWPer
The AWP is a bolt-action sniper rifle with a magazine carrying 5 rounds. At the hands of a skilled player, it can change the course of the game. In fact, the entire team economy is focused on providing that weapon (the initial one is a simple rifle).
Lurker
They try to outmaneuver opposing teams through stealth. They also take out isolated players. The crucial point is to understand the map and have perfect timing on when to appear and when to pull the trigger.
Entry fragger
The first player to enter a position, cover angles, and relay information. They try to secure the entry kill and they must be able to react quickly and aim straight.
This is all you need to know to make the correct decisions for betting on a tournament of CS:GO. However, in order to do that, first you need to open an account via agent. Otherwise, you will not be able to place your wagers on your favorite winning team. On our next part, we will discuss about the other major title. The League of Legends.
